Frequently asked questions
Markup is added on top of cost (a $100 item with 50% markup sells for $150). Margin is the profit share of the sell price (a $150 sale with $50 profit is a 33.3% margin). Same dollars, different denominator.
margin = markup / (1 + markup). A 50% markup equals a 33.3% margin. A 100% markup equals a 50% margin.
